finance for non-finance managers

fara | 8/19/2009 | 10:55 pm

was recommended to attend the course by the HOD way back in dec 2008 – but had a minor glitch when i arrived as my name was not in the registration list!… apparently, after the approval was given by HR – i had neglected to submit the registration myself as had wrongly assumed it was handled by the HR exec as per all my previous courses. good thing the organiser said they had no worries accommodating me as there were a few no-shows so i didn’t drive all the way across kl to sri damansara for nuthin.

nyahaha.. well, i thought i was in for a humdrum course abt crunching numbers and intepreting ratios/gearing etc. but if today’s session is anything to go by, i think i could safely say i would recommend the session to those who have never tried a T account, done a trial balance or knows their assets from their liabilities.

as for me, being a graduate in accounting/finance – it is more of a refresher and in some ways, an eye-opener as we went to basics and the trainer pretty much explained it in a way that layman (in this case, chemists, engineers, manufacturing, marketing background peeps) could understand.

the last i looked forward to attending training was back in June (or was it July?)…

ok.. time to snooze.. have that drive across kl again tomorrow.

of dreams and dreams

fara | 8/14/2009 | 7:37 am

i recall laughing at kakcik in those early days when she said she dreamt about work. back  then, i had always been able to switch off after leaving the threshold of those majestic menara jagung.

well, fast forward 5-6 years… this morning i woke up with a feeling that i’ve been doing work all night.. i think i solved a few outstanding matters in my dreams… but could not for the life of me recall what the resolution was. should probably start sleeping with a notepad beside me so i can scribble those ‘epiphanies’.

this happened earlier this year too – when things were a tad crazy at work. so stress = dreaming of work. i think what got me spooked was a conversation i had whereby i was told this temporary arrangement may turn into a permanent one – if i wanted it to be… oh no!

and to think that when i attended that infamous orientation programme for new executives – i had actually made a deal with myself that i shall reach a certain rung in the corporate ladder by a certain # of years. but that dream has changed.

should probably do some yoga or relaxation exercises before i doze off at night and see whether that will improve things. else, there’s always actually waking up and doing work :P

just so i have a post in june *lol*

fara | 6/30/2009 | 11:01 pm

i just noticed that it’s been more than a month since i posted an entry.

what has happened since the last update:

  • work-wise: project had stalled for awhile due to some variation to the scope and needed to agree on the new scope. just finalised the details of the scope last week and in the midst of resubmitting. can’t wait to get raring.. i just can’t function well when things are uncertain – my mind turns into mush at work
  • family-wise: my bro’s wedding reception, impromptu trip to penang, kakak’s birthday trip to genting, the faramir tioman vacation, a 2d1N-ter at gleaneagles intan, me being hit by the same bug as the two kids
  • personal-wise: am now 17-weeks preggers, eating like there’s no tomorrow (esp. those nite time snacks), am also proud to say that i can manage to swim (like a dugong still, but swim nonetheless!!) after 4-odd classes and am now just focusing on perfecting the stroke – getting into the rhythm and not being to hung up on remembering instructions :P

will update further later.. wanna go and catch some snoozes.. got me a doc’s appointment for my 4th month of pregnancy. may even get a ultrasound image up.. though none of those 3D stuff for me – since i don’t go to a obgyn for my checkups.

back from the east (coast) and down to the south of peninsula

fara | 5/6/2009 | 10:13 pm

yep. very de tiring.

will blog more about the trip to east coast later with photos – stayed at villa danialla. definitely not something i’d like to do on a regular basis..as per what amir advised my other brothers  ”nanti korang nye turn carik bakal bini yg duduk kat pj/kl dan yang sewaktu dengan nya..”. but still managed to squeeze in two kenduris in one day – which we haven’t achieved in actually doing in a longgg longg while.. so yeay us!

now am on a business trip down south.

got to reconnect with ex-colleagues @ senibong seafood village after landing on jb soil & settling in the hotel i’ve been put up at – finding our way there was interesting as you have 3 out-of-towners trying to navigate jb roads with just gps for reference.. but food was good apart from the extra sour tomyam / over garing super expensive garoupa (or is it grouper?)

just had ayam penyet dinner with my tag team here + her fiance @ benafe restaurant. different presentation from wong solo’s version but no less yummy. the fact that the portion is larger is definitely no biggie for this pregnant mama. jee even commented that i cleaned my plate better than them – they haven’t seen me back in my college days :)

.. and now am waiting for the chance to see a friend from uni days.

note:

and suddenly this weekend is full of things i wanna do

  • just found out that oga day is this weekend – now if only i can get the visa
  • old housemate from melbourne days is now in town (kl, i mean).. and i’d like to meet her with another old housemate who also lives in kl – shouldn’t be an issue with this visa
  • there’s the next swimming lesson on sunday.. i just hope i haven’t forgotten how to breathe
  • and finally, the long delayed session with ain – pre-approved visa

that’s actually more activities than my average weekend would look like! i’m on on a roll~!!

ohh.. and then there’s to hoping the kick-off goes well friday.
