anaqi update: his terrible twos

fara | 9/30/2008 | 2:39 am

it’s 2:16am.. and i am on my last batch of cookies for the night. yup. last minute worker, i am.

anywho, it’s due to being emotionally tired after anaqi threw a tantrum @ tesco ampang’s parking that my earlier plan to bake during lunch hour was unceremoniously moved to after iftar.

kakak had mentioned to her dad on sunday that she wanted to go to tesco – there’s this kiddie play area that she absolutely loves. as it was already 10am at that point, neither of us wanted to brave the crowd (for those who live near carrefour wangsa maju, can you believe the queue towards the entrance of their parking?!! – it’s been like that since thursday!) so amir volunteered me to take her and adik in tow on monday.

we left the house @ 8:30am monday so as to be the first ones to arrive at the kiddie play area. just our luck, apparently they shifted their opening hours to 10am and we ended up with 1hr+ to spare. i had with me the $50 voucher i won during the company annual dinner – what better time to use it? – and cashed it to get me some kitchen utensils that i’ve never got round to buying in my other shopping trips

fast fwd one hour later, kakak was already restless with the shopping and couldn’t wait to get to the play area. we spent another hour ++ there – both kakak and anaqi had the whole area to themselves for nearly 40 mins before the other kids made their appearance. when i decided it was time to head home. kakak seemed disappointed that we were leaving already but didn’t complain. anaqi? he just went with the flow.. or so i thought.

anaqi started to act up when i tried to strap him into his baby seat… fine i thought.. tried to distract him with his toys.. didn’t work.. then i placed him on the back seat and tried to strap him using the normal seat belts (i know, not very well-thought out.. ).. it worked earlier on the trip to tesco – but this time, he still resisted.

thinking that he’s demanding his feed (tho he didn’t make his usual signals for a feed), i proceeded to ask kakak to activate the car lock mechanism while i settle down to feed in the backseat. he pushed me away repeatedly before starting to push at the door. got out, then settled into the driver’s seat with him – to see whether he’d be happy playing with the steering wheel.

he still got upset and kept signalling to get out of the car and was, by then, crying at the top of his lungs (you know the type where each cry is followed by a hiccup and sometimes he ends up wailing without a sound)… i complied with his wishes and it was then that he started pointing back at tesco’s entrance… apparently he still wanted to go back and play.

as i had plans for the afternoon – tried to talk some sense into the kid on why we should head home (yet another half-baked thought). finally got fed up – locked the car, started the ignition and just drove home – wailing toddler in lap and all.. kakak even tried to help calm her brother down by singing a lullaby.. but that only got him to wail harder.

it was only when we reached the exit from mrr2 heading towards wangsa maju did anaqi start to calm down – i didn’t dare reposition him for fear that it would start another bout of tantrum. funny thing tho – upon arriving home and being placed in the living area – he immediately started happily playing with his new toy truck as if none of the earlier drama had occured.

which was why – at 12pm – i ended up taking a nap instead of starting on my choc chip cookies. and here we are..

btw, his two molars have really shown themselves so now he has a grand total of 10 pearly whites.. was wondering out loud to amir earlier why his incisors have yet to make their appearance.. but then i stopped short – as it is, i am barely able to contain myself whenever he decides to take a nip while feeding – if the incisors decide to make themselves known, i might end up smacking anaqi on his bum!

cough sniffles and the lot

fara | 8/28/2008 | 10:26 pm

CIMG3660.jpg

it crossed my mind that it’s been awhile since anaqi got sick (not that i’m asking for it – but you can’t stop these random thoughts) .. and sure enuff – he came down with a major one last weekend

we had attended a wedding in mentakab on saturday – one of amir’s best buddies FINALLY got hitched after being the saksi for soooooooooo many friends (amir and me included). of course we could not afford to miss it. surprisingly we made good time – left kl @ 10:30am and was there by 11:55am.

CIMG3585.jpghung out until 3pm (the least we could do).. and then headed back for home as we’re hosting the birthday BBQ for nenek and the house needs a bit of spiffing up.

when we reached home, it was raining. had placed anaqi in the house and was getting some stuff out of the car when the lil’ urchin just had to follow me onto the porch. which of course caused him to get a bit wet from the rain.

now in me familia, if any of us happen to get rained on – nenek will always demand us to immediate take a bath/shower and wash our hair – to avoid from catching a cold and fever. silly me.. on that day, i was too concerned abt getting the house in order, so i delayed the bath a bit but didn’t think anything of it.

the birthday BBQ went as planned – lamb and chicken was good, ayu made a birthday cake and everybody pretty much ate their fill. i had, btw, bought for nenek a Scrabble Travel set as giving the normal bajus, tudungs, brooches and whatnots has been done by her hordes of caring workmates.

that nite – anaqi was fine. but then the next day, noticed that he was a bit listless but attributed it to him being overly tired due to the excitement of the nite before. we then headed for klcc to catch wall-e @ tgv.. anaqi dozed off half an hour into the movie.

CIMG3654.jpgby the time we were at the bowling alley (had had to fit that in as we’re supposed to participate in this bowling tourney on 30th).. noticed that anaqi’s body was a bit warm and he sneezed quite a bit. dropped by the 24-hr clinic (as our normal GP is closed on sundays).. but saw the crowd waiting and decided to only seek consultation monday.

as i feared, his temperature went up that nite but i was armed with the fever medication provided when he had his 18-month jab .. it helped some but the cough and sniffles continued.

monday i took the day off to care for anaqi – returned to work tuesday but the fever persisted. ended up staying the nite @ nenek and yaie’s last nite due to the heavy downpour (yeah, now i am paranoid about him getting rained on).. and it’s only today am seeing signs of him improving. alhamdulillah.

it was whilst at nenek’s for the “sleepover” (as kakak puts it) that i noticed two more teeth pushing out of his upper gums. no wonder he’s gone a bit crazy on biting everything that crossed his path – me, kakak, the minyak telon and vicks bottle, gumming on the cover of a talc bottle and swallowing quite a bit of talc in the process.

so welcome teeth #8 and #9!!! here’s to hoping this doesn’t translate into more ‘ouwchies’ for mama!

anaqi update: 18 months and still going on

fara | 8/14/2008 | 12:59 pm

he actually turned 18mths two weekends ago. got his 18-month immunisation and that’s it until he’s in primary school. there’s those extra immunisation – but since haven’t gotten my head around to understanding the need for those – will hold off for now.

CIMG3374

things about the boy:

  • loves little einstein to bits.. even did a terjun tiruk from the sofa to sit himself properly in time for the ‘pat-pat-pat-pat-blast-off!!!’ sequence
  • now recognises the route to his grandparents’ place – and will say ‘Yaaaa…’ as short for yaie when i ask him whose house are we headed for
  • has a talent for rempit-ing… he likes to do the wheelie.. and he’s managed to fall backwards off the trike/toy cars that he rode 4 times since saturday
  • still hasn’t grown additional molars (stuck @ 7.. lucky # slevin!)
  • fav fruits – banana, papaya and royal gala apples (such a change from kakak who would only eat watermelon in her toddler years)
  • his sign for ‘milk’ and ’smelly’ is similar – so just to tease him i would purposely misunderstand his meaning and check his diapers instead of offering him his feed
  • oh, and he still breastfeeding! (yeay me!)

anaqi & kakak update: all in one

fara | 7/17/2008 | 12:49 am

anaqi:

  • has gone bald (first visit to the barber’s!)
  • is 1 y 5 months old and still breastfeeding *yeay me!*
  • runs and jumps and tumbles
  • had bleeding gum due to one of his tumbles – thot he broke his milk teeth! now ok.
  • had a cut near his left eye due to another one of his tumbles – am just grateful whatever he hit didn’t get into his eyes – now ok too
  • has recently learnt to say ‘yaaaaaaaa-yiiiiiiiiii’ (for yaie – our term for my dad)… nenek is sooooo jealous
  • loves my friends tigger n pooh, pocoyo, thomas..
  • is still stuck with seven (7) teeth.. when the rest is planning to make their appearance – i dunno – but it’s a blessing due to point 2.

kakak:

  • has also shorn her hair (as per mama’s hairdo – but hers looks better)
  • won the first place with her team at her pre-school olympiad held @ stadium putra bukit jalil – she wore the medal for the next 2 days – even to sleep!
  • has composed at least 2 songs – 1 to sing to her brother and 1 for me
  • wants to be hannah montana (nobody’s perfect! i gotta work it! again and again til i get it right!) and forces her mama to pretend to be hannah montana too!
  • has developed exceptionally neat handwriting (when she’s not too tired when doing her homework)
  • has finally conceded to use the lil girls’ room at pre-school

pics of those moments will have to wait – somehow the explorer that came with this vista does not allow me the full functionalities of gallery!

g’nite peeps – anaqi had a slight fever earlier but alhamdulillah it has receded. which was why i couldn’t join the walk in the park (again) that THE COMPANY recreation club organised earlier .. and just when i was pumped to the point that i bought me a new pair of walking shoes. oh well, next week then – unless something else crops up!
