came across dunstan’s secret language of babies i think a year back, when i was blog-hopping and was wondering whether it would really work.

recalled the same concept when aryan was just a few days old but never got round to locating the video again.

just a recap, newborn babies normally would only cry when they’re hungry, sleepy or uncomfortable and the concept identified 5 main sounds that we need to respond to:

1. Neh means I am hungry

2. Owh means I am sleepy

3. Eh means I need to burp

4. Eirh means I have gas/wind

5. Heh means I am uncomfortable

For further details on suggested ways to respond to each sound (well, just for 4 & 5 – 1,2 & 3 is pretty self explanatory) – go to this page and download the comprehensive booklet – then go to youtube to listen to samples of the sounds.

2 weeks ago, i finally found the video on youtube – and managed to identify the ‘Neh’ and ‘Owh’ sounds quite easily & have since been trying to respond to aryan depending on what sounds he makes.

the other three (Eh, Heh and Eirh) is not that easily differentiated and am still working on identifying. which explains why aryan spits up milk quite regularly.

i still have 6-odd weeks left to figure the final 3 out before aryan starts introducing new words and start confounding me with his oratory prowess…

  1. seriously? i’m impressed!!!

  2. wow! awesome! that really is something kan.. to be able to recognize their needs immediately.. saves the trouble of the parent getting frustrated too at not knowing what they really need.. hmmm wish i could have done the same with ayska hehe ehh but come to think of it.. i thk my maid seem to recognize quite a bit of her whining sounds.. more often than not, i go to bibik and ask her sometimes, ‘dia nak apa ni, bik?’ when i cant seem to be able to soothe her ;)
