the big three-oh-oh-oh

17 05 2008

so the day came - that i finally reach that milestone :) - had initially planned to take the day and friday off but due to me having taken mc the week b4 - felt guilty plak! (yeah.. kakcik.. i am still like that!)

had a call from btu wishing me happy bday 24 hrs prior *touched!* and had lunch with soohsia as she was in the neighborhood (budak kecik was invited to tag along for the lunch too) - it was good hearing her compare the work environment @ her new place.

then it was dinner with the clan. amir chose sri ayutthaya as we both love thai food and we’ve yet to try out the food there.

green curry chickenkailan ikan masindeep-fried cuttlefishkerabu manggathe birthday gal - moi!kakak was asleep just 5 minutes prior to this photoanaqi no likey the baby chairone for the road!

we ordered the following (for 2 adults + 2 children!)

appetizer: deep fried squid / main course: kerabu mangga, green curry chicken (for me), tomyam thalay (for amir), thai style steamed fish and kailan ikan masin. overall, the food was alright (didn’t finish the green curry tho - prolly an acquired taste)

if i had anything to complain tho - it would be the fact that the seat covers had seen better days. the one amir nearly sat on was the worse - looked like they had a foodfight in the restaurant - with splatters of god-knows-what. the waiter didn’t apologise or even bat an eyelash when we asked him to change the chair!

will not head over there again (unless somebody else’s picking up the tab!) - just got a recommendation to go to bangkok jazz instead. will definitely try it out!

a tribute to boarding skool meals

photo ciloked from dydd’s fb album

this post was inspired by dura’s entry on college meals - more on her post >> here

please sir, may i have some more?meals - meals that i remember from those days of old that would see me queuing for seconds

  • breakfast: bread with cheese & sausage
  • lunch: nasik daging + kuah dalca / chicken rice / nasik + kari + telur asin (i only eat the yolk as the whites are too salty)
  • dinner: i don’t think i had any really memorable dinners
  • tea (morning or afternoon): buns buns and more buns!

memorable meals  - due to weirdness, novelty or pure yucki-ness

  • sahur: nasik + sambal telur dinosaur (hardboiled eggs with spots on ‘em! a definite eye-opener as our sahur starts at 5am)
  • dinner: nasik + ketam (not sure whether i imagined this - or whether it really was served)
  • lunch: nasik + some beef dish but finding  fish meat caked on my tray (from previous night’s dinner, i guess?)

you guys remember any other?

let this be a tag - am tagging nadi0,wegz, lynor, ziah, sha2, wid0ts, modek, n|ns, nisa j, ida z

counting the days til june comes around

6 05 2008

it’s only the first week of may and i am already starting to count down to 1st week of june. why? coz that’s when i take off for a week to recharge - focus 100% on the hubby and kids - and finally getting the desired combo of sun, sand and surf.

before that - things that i’d like to settle/complete to have peace of mind during that break:

  • finalise my appraisal for the past fy. yeah.. we’re a bit late compared to everybody else. in my case, this is actually an improvement from previous appraisal period - i submitted zilch!

alice_appraisal

  • i’d need to figure out how this next phase of work am doing @ cyberjaya will work out - key resources are currently in myanmar - we want to pull in vendors to assist but potentially will be a cost that the company has to absorb? nice, huh? not the type of project any appraisal-conscious employee would like to be linked to as it spells LOSS with a capital L.
  • volunteered myself for the dept’s sharepoint site - now to lock down the sp developer for that training so at least a semblance of a site can be up and running for dept use
  • need to also confirm whether another project of mine will take off and when :)
  • on a personal note: need to upgrade to the latest wp version - what i am reading on the feature seems good - tho am hesitant as it may break the theme i am using. will keep that for the week just before i go off!

on another note, just had a briefing session with the head honcho. i’ve been to nearly all head honcho’s briefings/address - but this one is by far the most lucid and comprehensible. those who’ve experienced the sopranos version may get my drift.

and the term that i’ve longed to hear from those parts (but didn’t realise it until just now) was efforts made for talent retention - which wasn’t big on the agenda previously but made its way for this year. a definite balm to my nerves and sanity (search ‘budak itam’ in this blog and u’ll figure out why)

the trip that never was

4 05 2008

1st may @ bukit merbah

yup. as they say, mortals plan but god wills.

had actually been figuring out the roadtrip up to 5 pm on wednesday and finally confirmed the details on the way home to pickup the kids.

when i parked the car, was greeted at the door by anaqi crying his head off - and mama saying that he’s running a temperature. first thought was - there goes my trip. selfish, eh?..

anywho - msged both huda and wija re: the need to cancel … and spent the next two nights and a day nursing anaqi to health - was pretty much like a hermit thruout that duration.

alhamdulillah - he was on the road to recovery come friday - so at least we managed to run the errands we had planned when both amir and i decided to take friday off. but as it usually is whenever anaqi (or kakak) has bad nights due to illness - i end up with a pounding head the day after - so was zonked out after anaqi dozed off for his morning nap and even missed picking up kakak - thank god amir was at home - else, kesian kakak kena tunggu.

makan @ seoul bulgogi

huda then dropped an invite to have dinner @ seoul bulgogi - a korean buffet featuring bbq and steamboat. not that i really wanted to eat - but was hankering to go out after that self-imposed exile. when she heard that mama was going to see her friends, kakak asked to come along - so she did.

belum apa2 lagi - dah makan icecreamand i think she was happy she did - no other time would she had been able to eat 2 servings of icecream both before and after her meal! that was me trying to buy more time to hang out - otherwise, i would be home after the first hour!

nampak tak kulit kerang banyak - ghose loves her cocklesoverall, quite a variety of meats to chose from - i mostly consumed whatever the rest of the gals placed on the plate - but the fried dimsum was nice .. and the mango pudding. AND most importantly - i survived the drive from wangsa maju to plaza pantai during friday after-office rush hour!! yeay me!
