kakak update: primary school registration, anyone?

27 03 2008

kakak on the runlate 2006 when amir suggested that we enrol kakak at the pre-school she’s currently attending, i admit i was a bit hesitant - i just placed myself in her position and imagined attending pre-school for 3 years and then going to primary school. i immediately decided it would be a bore.

fast fwd 1 yr ++ down the road - i went through the whole cycle again - only this time it was when amir was excited to register kakak @ a certain primary school in kl. i wasn’t that keen for the school - no exact reason - but then, i went thru the motions of dropping by the administration office and requesting for the necessary application forms. it was then, when i was in the midst of the school environment, that i realised i really wanted kakak to attend this school.

it’s not just the fact that they’ve been consistently performing well @ state-level but also due to the fact that the student population was not dominated by malays and their excellent extra curricular activities (there were kids playing hockey when i dropped by)

so when i came across kimster’s post re: erja managing to secure a place @ their preferred primary school, i’m reminded that i hv yet to call the school to check on the status.

freshie concert 1991 - malay dance - after the showtalking about skools - dura dropped by our old alma mater .. and now i am all nostalgic about our time there. LOL. of course not all the memories were saccharine sweet, but hey.. time does have the knack of dulling the pain of any excruciating experiences we’ve gone through :)

really should head down to seremban and serang the school before it shifts to that other location.. urgh. the last i was there, i was preggy with kakak - 2003!!

finally watched the 100th episode

25 03 2008

OTH-100th-Episode-Partydang.. never knew i could watch 100 episodes of anything - but there you go. just watched the 100th episode of OTH. nyahaha..

anywho - this is the lyrics to the U2 song with the same title as the series - now let’s hope i’ll still be interested in the series if and when they get permission to use the song as their coda

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy love
The sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone
On the face of earth
The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes

You run like river, on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the sea

And in the world a heart of darkness
A fire zone
Where poets speak their heart
Then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon
In the hands of love
You know his blood still cries
From the ground

It runs like a river runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea

I don’t believe in painted roses
Or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful
I’ll see you again
When the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red
Over One Tree Hill

We run like a river
Run to the sea
We run like a river to the sea
And when it’s raining
Raining hard
That’s when the rain will
Break my heart

Raining…raining in the heart
Raining in your heart
Raining…raining to your heart
Raining, raining…raining
Raining to your heart
Raining…raining in your heart
Raining in your heart..
To the sea

Oh great ocean
Oh great sea
Run to the ocean
Run to the sea

post election - the longest 1 week in history

18 03 2008

ruling scaledoesn’t it feel that way?  i felt so

and that was what the coursemates i talked to think too - before the session started last night, we were still talking politics. yours truly included, although she does not vote.

i was in malaysia when the 11th general elections was held - and yet, i can recall nothing memorable (apart from the roads in my neighborhood being resurfaced - which is such a tell-tale sign of impending polls).. it was same ol’ same ol’.

now this year’s was a different cuppa… even apathetic me got interested in the going-ons (not pre-election tho.. that’s all puke-inducing - especially on mainstream media).. it’s the aftermath that interested me.

of the 4 new states that fell into ‘opposition’ hands (well.. now they’re not opposition in the respective states, are they?)…

  • 1 state had its ex-MB promising as the ‘opposition’ they will ensure the manifesto of the new ‘welfare’ state govt will be fulfilled
  • another state had the 3 ‘loose’ coalition parties bickering who should be the MB and the representation in the state exco - good god.. this was supposed to be the moment of triumph and reflection - do your bickering behind closed doors - THEN make statements
  • 1 state had the umno youth calling for scrapping of all federal mega projects slated for that pearl of the orient (wtf?)
  • another had the new MB moving into an office devoid of state govt papers

even those that the ruling coalition retained were not spared - whereby we see the state rulers exerting their sovereignty to decide who they’d prefer to manage their respective states.

and at 12 noon today - the much awaited new (or recycled?) line up of the cabinet!

**drumrolls**

expect more statements later today and probably a mutiny if what we fear happens?

so true - yet hard to ignore the temptation

16 03 2008

i started subscribing to babycenter while trying to maintain supply for kakak after returning to work. and since then, the weekly newsletter and the articles at the site have helped me to keep remembering to breathe whenever i hit a snag with raising her (and now, anaqi)

supermom250i just came across this entry at babycenter blog >> ‘tired of supermom?’

it’s hard not to try and compare yourself with others. we’ve been brought up to compete - with our siblings, cousins, classmates and with the age of internet, people over the expanse of the ocean too - that even in parenting, you compare yourself with other moms.

24 hours a day should be enough to do what i currently do and then some more - there’s always that part of the house that could be more organised, dinners/lunches/breakfasts that could’ve been prepared at home (instead of the more-often-than-not quick stop at your friendly mamak).. yoga sequences that could be fitted into that 20-mins interval between anaqi’s last nursing and before i get ready for work

but in the end, who am i kidding?

from now…. live in day-tight compartments.. do what you can do for today - and let yesterday fade away and tomorrow bring it on!

anaqi update: another milestone (delayed update)

13 03 2008

weight: to be updated

height: to be updated

basically, since his birthday - i haven’t bothered to check his weight yet.

but.. i have more important things to note - another milestone.

he’s finally walking on his own a few days shy of turning 13 months… if i were to compare to his kakak - he’s totally on time as kakak also started walking round about the same time.

the weeks preceeding that fateful day - anaqi had started taking a couple of steps with hands outstretched. as his uncle pouji calls it - stail zombie kampung pisang.

on friday, two weeks ago - i was having tea whilst nenek, yaie, cik pouji were watching the telly. kakak was busy drawing - as usual. when he started to take a few steps, we didn’t pay much attention as we were expecting him to sit down in a bit.

checking out rumput... tak penah nampakthen with face scrunched up in concentration - both arms by his side - he purposely walked from one end of the living area to the other.  all of us collectively held our breath for fear of distracting him… once he reached the sofa where yaie was seated, we spontaneously clapped in unison - much to the delight of anaqi.

since then, there was no stopping him. he’s now also into pausing to squat and pick up things from the floor - then heaving himself up again to continue his course.

his teethy mugshot

i promised back in this post that i would upload a mugshot of his first tooth. well, easier said than done! every time i tried - i end up with either blurred image as the shot was too far or a wet camera (anaqi trying to chomp on the lens!)

so finally, after a few more molars have made their appearance - i managed to get a few good shots. to kick start a good habit - i’ve already starting to teach him to use his baby toothbrush - he’d get excited whenever he sees kakak brushing her teeth  and i’ll let him handle his own ’step 1′ brush.

here’s some of those i managed to capture

buat muka busyuk sketttCIMG2638yeayy outing with kakak and mama
