kakak update: new hairdo and after a month in pre-2 @ pre-school
fara | 2/15/2008 | 11:48 ami have been remiss in updating on kakak … blame that on my fascination with anaqi..
the new hairdo
i cut her hair – again. this time, it was her own asking. apparently nenek had suggested that kakak cut her hair so she wouldn’t feel hot and ‘icky’.
during the cny break weekend – went into my barber-of-fleet-street mode (sans the slashing and blood and gore, of course) and proceeded to give my two kids a haircut. started first on anaqi but him being the grown boy he is – did not like the fact that he had to stay still so i left it half done when it got a bit too dangerous to wield a scissor near flailing arms and legs.
kakak immediately offered to have her hair cut by yours truly and properly sat down on the stool to my administration. snip snip snip… initially took of 1/2 inch of her bangs – but then she questioned why i didn’t do the rest of her hair…. snip snip snip – 2 inches all around and she looked instantly younger!
made her take a shower (washed off all those loose bits of hair) and proceeded to dry her hair… she went to her room – of course to check out her new do. and ran out crying!!!
a portion of the conversation that followed:
me: kakak, why are u crying?
kakak: i saw my hair. i am not beautiful anymooooooooooore (and she wails a bit more)
me: u asked me to cut ur hair short, it looks nice on you!
kakak: but it’s not beautiful anymooooore.. (waaaaaaaaa)Â i don’t look like my doll!!
me: (changing tactics now) ohhh… but if you remember your disney princess CD, your hair is like snow white’s .. u remember snow white has short black hair, right? so.. u’re pretty like snow white now.
kakak: (ponders that new bit of information) …. emmm ok… (happily goes off and plays with her dolls)
tragedy averted. my daughter and her vanity
the new class (pre-2 level) @ pre-school
she returned to the same pre-school – some of her old classmates moved to the same class, so it wasn’t that scary anymore. got her a new class teacher.
and kakak has become more chatty in reporting what happened at school everyday. previously i’d have to ask a lot of questions – but nowadays, i’ll just have to ask ‘so what did you do at school today?’ and she’ll rattle off what teacher told her and proudly recite the new things she learnt.
but after 1 month ++ of the new pre-school year, kakak has yet to manage to join the swimming classes. all due to the sniffles or cough or fever that she either is having or just recovering from. kesian pulak when she reports every wednesday that she sat in class with a few others while the rest of her class had fun in the pool.
so am gonna start impressing upon her the importance of her to take her vitamin C supplements.

hats off to my training groupmates – james, afizi and harris!
on another note, just found out from soohsia – since i had been soo ‘rajin’ to check my other work mail - that we’re are having a togeder-geder session with those that we’ve worked with in those early days (does the name project blackbird ring any bells?)…
we’ve been remiss in maintaining our togeder-geders for whatever conceivable reasons (read – excuses..) and as a few are leaving for greener pastures - hence the sudden turn of events… so am looking forward to friday!
now to see who turns up.. should we extend the invite to brader? will hv to ask the main organiser!
our cny break in a nutshell
fara | 2/13/2008 | 11:38 amthurs
as per earlier mentioned – we watched cj7 and attended adib’s birthday party.
friday
was more of me going back to my old room @ nenek’s home and moving what remaining stuff i had left when we moved in apr 07 (still have a few albums in the master bedroom.. but that can be done another day)
just realised i still had all those notes that we used to exchange back in old bukit merbah in seremban with pet sisters.. it’ll be interesting read on rainy days when there’s nothing else to do… and there’s some pretty good hand-made cards to be found!
saturday
packed the clan up early – had breakfast at nenek’s place and off we went to butterfly park (yet again)! this time we arrived there @ 9:30am – semangat giler!… even managed to secure parking spot in the compound of the park – instead of parking across.
when we entered the enclosure, kakak immediately went into action – locating butterflies to pick up, of course! thing is – everytime she (or me or her baba) neared one, them butterflies would flutter away. and there weren’t many near the ground – most of ‘em were all up near the netting covering the enclosure. i surmised that this was their feeding time and they got no time for us humans.
true enough, when baba was ready to leave at around 11 am (after the foiled attempts of being butterfly heroes)Â - we noticed that the butterflies seemed a bit more laid back (dah kenyang kot?) .. and kakak was able to pick up a few to show off her prowess as a butterfly hero(ine)
so to those who plan to head there. don’t go too early – unless you just want to enjoy the morning air… 11am seems just about the right time to be able to get some quality butterfly sightings!!
sunday
was a lazy day (what sunday ain’t?).. so had lunch at this new place amir had noticed near alpha angle.
kak eita restoran – sup ekor stimbot (let’s not get started with all the errors in the name.. it’s malaysia u know!) @ jln metro wangsa, section 2 wangsa maju… they made a point to try put up a website -> click here - but it’s not ready yet.
bumped into roslirh hving lunch there with the wifey – apart from the requisite hellos – left them to their quality time without the kids
the restaurant layout was simple and nice - kakak liked the small water fountain at the entrance.
waitress was prompt – when we told her it was our first visit – she immediately went to explaining that everything in the menu were all set meals. no ala-carte dishes. there’s a selection of chicken, beef and seafood-dish based meals – all with either with white or baba nyonya rice, stirfried mixed veggies, pergedil, papadums and dessert (in this case, watermelon slices)
i ordered ayam berempah set for kakak, ayam rendang kedah for myself & anaqi and amir had the rendang daging kambing set. both mine and amir’s were with baba nyonya rice (combo of nasi tomato and nasi briyani or nasi minyak – can’t recall).
all of us had warm water – recuperating from last month’s bout of sniffles and cough, remember? but even if i had wanted to order their special drinks – the blender was out of order
our order arrived within 10 minutes – which is pretty good since we were all hungry and even tho had planned to snap photos of the meal(s) – anaqi’s demand to be fed could not be ignored! so next time, yah!
overall, the food was nice – stirfried veggies could be a bit more crunchier – but that’s my personal preference. pergedil a bit on the small side. but everyone left the restaurant satisfied.
they even have a steamboat buffet going on every day from 6pm-11pm @ myr26++ per pax – supposedly their signature is the oxtail soup steamboat (as per the restaurant’s name) so we will be coming back to try that one out!
one complaint tho – noticed a few flies nearby their buffet counter (which was closed during lunch time) .. amir mentioned it to the waitress – her response was since it was seafood buffet – it’s normal. the management may want to work on that..
