the eve of 31st aug

30 08 2007

so here’s to the 50th anniversary of independent malaya (malaysia would be only celebrating its 43 years of existence, eh?)

how am i planning on celebrating?

1) pack up and get going from the workstation @ 5 pm sharp

2) head for level 3, suria klcc to get me either a pint or quart of new zealand natural icecream (they’re giving 50% off all icecream - yee haaa!!)

3) get me gear headed for home (or more accurately, for papa’s)

4) have a icecream party whilst watching the fireworks on telly (i would most prolly be breastfeeding whilst eating icecream and watching the telly)

5) sleep-in tomorrow - MERDEKA!!!!!

by the way, in my many meanderings online - came across this webcomic - xkcd - am now hooked on it - a sampler below.

of newborns and new homes

22 08 2007

of the newborn

it’s a girl!!! ayu and abg awie was understandably over the moon as this niece of mine has been a long-awaited addition to the family. their two older children are hyper-active boys who don’t take no for an answer - so getting a girl is a welcome change :P

adiba(h?) zulaikha was born @ 7:40pm on last thursday, 16th Aug 2007 making nenek’s and yaie’s total grandchildren to 5 pax - her birthday is one day after her nenek’s who celebrated her 55th year on 15th.

adiba(h)’s a midget of a baby weighing in at 2.5kgs at birth but nurses like anaqi who weighed in at 3.7kgs at birth. has a mop of hair like ernie and is a spitting image of her eldest bro adam.

due to post-natal massage appointments, ayu and her brood are all in keramat since monday - making the family home a somewhat chaotic mini childcare center as kakak and anaqi are also parked there.

kakak is having the time of her life though as she has people her age to consort with (it’s the school holidays, remember?!)

of the new home

last weekend also saw us making a roadtrip up north to a supposed housewarming of amir’s niece (who by the way, is the same age as amir)

amir managed to make the trip to ipoh in 2.5 hours but spent another 45 minutes locating riza’s house. thanx to apathy - i arrived at what turned out to be a tahlil/kenduri sporting a pair of jeans and t-shirt… bahh!! so buat slamber aje laa…

finally saw amir faris - my cucu sedara - who is also the same age as anaqi.. riza’s firstborn is also the same age as kakak - in fact, both riza’s kids are roughly 3 months older than our kids.

the trip back, we made a detour to shah alam to check out the new born - had initially ditched the idea of visiting as per above (the shah alam brood already planning to relocate to keramat from monday onwards). but whilst at ipoh, kakak kept claiming the promised trip to shah alam

‘maaaa…i want to see abg adam and haikal! i want to play with abg adam and haikal’

she kept repeating the request every half hour or so - amir finally relented and we ended up traversing the guthrie expressway to reach her beloved abg adam and haikal.

kakak update: do i have to go to school tomorrow?

15 08 2007

i guessed as much.

here’s the thing - was in the midst of putting together a simple dinner when kakak approached me. she calmly showed me her hand - telling me it was hurt. took a look and saw that her thumb and forefinger looked like it was bleeding.

butterfly kissesasked her what happened - she broke down and cried while pointing @ her brother’s baby cot. quite puzzling, i’d say - since being a baby cot, there was no sharp surfaces or angles. but i proceeded to clean the wound - and was puzzled a bit more.

the cotton wools i’ve used to dab on the wound came out dark pink instead of red. this can’t be blood, methots… that’s when i suspected something’s not quite right there.

amir questioned her again on what actually transpired - he too looked a bit sceptical on the baby cot being the reason. when we insisted again, she then pointed at the artificial flowers that she was playing with earlier. a change in story.

then in the midst of cleaning the cut, she asked me,

“mama, do i have to go to school tomorrow?”

i asked why should she not go to school? - “because my hand is hurt”

i don’t really think this was the reason. queried her a bit more, suspecting that something happened in class that caused this reluctance.

then she opened up - “athirah is angry at me”

 to be continued

after a bit more questioning, found out that this athirah - a girl who kakak is seated next to - had previously gripped kakak’s arm a few times.

was tempted to keep her home from school the next day, but that wouldn’t solve the problem so decided to coax her into still going. she agreed after i promised to talk to her teacher and request for a change in seating.

when i dropped her off at her class before seeing her teacher, i just noticed that she is the biggest kid in class. shows what a softie kakak is … if i were her, i’d just whallop this athirah :P

time for a change

got tired of the current theme

currently browsing thru http://wpg2themes.galleryembedded.com/

looking for one that i can modify to suit me own tastes.

will see how it goes and whether it actually happens at all

kakak update: curly hair no more!

6 08 2007

before the hair cutwhen i go out with kakak, we’d always get comments/compliments from total strangers on how adorable she looks with her curls.

some would even venture to ask whether this was her original hair (d’oh! - kalo dah mama dia nak gi potong rambut pun setahun skali susah - apo laie nak pi perm2 rambut anak plak)

anywho, it had been quite a battle to even get her to trim her bangs… i would have to convince her that it’s quite the thing to do esp. since she’s going to school and with long bangs she wouldn’t be able to concentrate on learning.

i just recently got me hair chopped off - due to excessive drooling (not me!! anaqi larh). there’s this belief that when ur baby starts teething, the mom will start shedding a lot of hair - and boy, do i shed a lot of hair. every other day i’d be collecting wads of my hair from the family room, the master bedroom and the bathroom.

am digressing though.

well, since seeing me chop off me hair - kakak had recently requested that i cut her hair too. just to ensure i got her meaning right - asked her whether she meant her bangs.. “no mama… i want my hair short like your hair

after the haircutaiyaya… now it’s my turn to be reluctant. sayang wooo… it’s been nearly two years since she had her hair cut short. but kakak insisted - so last thursday, after her evening bath, i grabbed a pair of scissors and basically chopped off her hair - from it being just up to her waist - now it is only shoulder-length.

will need to put the before and after photos laa..

i still have the sacrificed locks - another belief is to bury the hair in ur own compound - supposed to be cooling. i dunno - it’s still in my wardrobe - along with my chopped off tresses ;)
