car pool car pool

20 04 2007

there have been talk in the news of dbkl charging s.o.v. (single occupant vehicles) for entry to city centre in a bid to reduce traffic woes. a nifty idea, definitely, provided that we have world-class public transportation (oh.. how i miss melbourne transportation)

as i have pretty much lost faith in our local public transportation, regardless of what happens with that idea - i may very well still drive to work but with a twist.

coz as of today, i have officially joined mama’s ranks as a car pooler (is there such a word?). mama was always the one who pools whenever she commutes to work - a few years ago, she hitched rides with her colleague.. 2-3 years since, she’s the one offering rides to cheras.

marlin had been living in w.maju ever since she worked in the company and as i had just moved to the area, had naturally offered her to car pool with me to the office. i will definitely be driving everyday so it just makes sense.

the commute seems shorter (even with bad traffic) as instead of depending on the mix.fm crew or making comments on other drivers for diversions - i now have someone to talk with :)

so marlin, here’s to our future pooling adventures.. and may you be patient with my driving :P

some people just shouldn’t be allowed to be behind the wheel

it’s 8:15 am ..

you are on jalan jelatek heading for kl with cars lined up all the way to the junction near carrefour…

the traffic police is controlling the flow and your lane is allowed to move when suddenly you are bumped into from behind..

what do you do?

  1. ignore the slight bump and go on your merry way
  2. get out of your car, get the details of the driver behind you and ask him/her to pull over somewhere where you wouldn’t be obstructing traffic while you settle the dispute
  3. get out of the car and have a mighty row smack in the middle of jln jelatek causing unnecessary delay to other commuters heading for their workplace

personally, i’d do either 1. if it was a slight bump.. it is peak hour and i do have to get to work or 2. if i heard some major metal dents - just so i can get the details for insurance claims

an old bugger actually did 3.

yesterday morning. here i was, already late for work and some old guy and middle-aged lady had to carry on their dispute on the right lane of jln jelatek.

ended up cursing the two… had a peek at the car that was bumped into when i switched lanes and couldn’t see any damage done. maybe the old bugger was just trying to argue on principle….

chikalo sungguh… dah le aku nak kena masuk office then rush to the other office for a meeting… ended up arriving at office fuming…

wherever i lay my hat

so two posts ago i mentioned abt our new place. so here’s the dig.

after nearly 5 years of crashing me parents’ place, we finally moved into our own home.. not the one that we bought.. mind you.. we’re in the midst of finalising the sale of that.. it’s a leased property…

but i am ngelating a bit arh.. as it’s only 5 mins drive from my parents’..any closer, we’d be like ray romano in everybody loves raymond. it’s closer to kakak’s school though..which is a boon…it was quite a hassle having to double-back after sending kya to school.

may prolly even think of purchasing the place if the landlord is willing and price is right .. but that’s another year’s plan… not gonna rush into another property purchase… ehh ayang?! :P

talk abt switching gears

17 04 2007

so like i returned to the job on apr 9th… was actually regaining momentum at work when on wednesday morning, i was hit by a serious case of the chills and was also purging. i kept asking my colleagues whether they felt the freezing cold that i was experiencing and apparently, where i felt the chills the most (in my hands) - others that touched my hands say they didn’t feel cold (the hands, not my colleagues).

had initially planned to sweat it out til end of business.. but by lunchtime, i was already a wreck, trying to hold back nausea and also regain warmth by putting on layers (i had an extra suit jacket at the office) and holding mugs containing hot water.

finally gave in @ 1pm.. collected my ISIS out-and-about kit and me sorry-excuse-for-a-handbag and skedaddled out of the office. arrived home to sleep off the nausea and only managed to drag myself to the doc’s later in the afternoon.

needless to say, was given 2 days medical leave (thurs & fri) .. with the added warning that if i don’t get well by friday, i’ll need to get my blood checked. haiyah… that got me attention.. and i concentrated hard on getting well… no ngelat2 makan ubat or cheating on doing heavy chores.. even bathing kya and anaqi was a no-no - amir handled that.

alhamdulillah, come friday i was back to normal… and on my feet. kakak and anaqi was very the happy, of course.. sbb mama was at home 24 hrs a day.

so come monday, i had to psyche myself up to going back to the office again… this time taking it easy on being up and about before 6am.

wegra… baby photos can be found via ’shutterbug’ link above. am a bit slow in uploading since everytime i get hyped to upload, streamyx acts up and always kills my connection.

managed to meet up with nanie on monday.. was asked to attend a meeting @ faber towers that morn.. thot of calling up both nanie and farahshim as recalled ‘em working there.. but got so caught up with some issues before lunch that i only left klcc @ 1pm..

so gave a ring to both and only got nanie.. she was having tapau-ed lunch :)) .. it had been so long since we met… the last time was at klcc when she had her first kid… and now, after i had my second…

but i guess will be able to see more of both farahshim and nanie as am actually assigned to do this new project with their group of companies

d-day (revisited): april 9th, 2007

9 04 2007

so the supposed date of apr 3rd earlier mentioned turned out to be apr 9th instead.

what happened?

the day i was s’posed to report back to duty, got me down with a cold.. the doc prescribed me with the mc required and told me to rest. hah! rest? when u have a newborn and a toddler to boot?… that word don’t exist in me vocabulary.

suffice to say i took longer than the requisite one day of rest to get well. so the day after, was given another mc. anaqi’s 2nd month check-up and immunization appointment was scheduled that week too - hence the decision to just extend my leave to last friday.

update on how i got thru the first day back at work

  • woke up @ 5 am just so i can get everything in readiness (for work, pumping session, anaqi’s feed for the day etc)
  • anaqi woke up early today and just gave me a quiet stare for roughly 20 mins - methinks he sensed something amiss when mama’s not lounging beside him at those wee hours of the morning
  • kakak had a short bout of separation anxiety (i was on leave for nearly 2.5 months you see…)
  • i had a bout of separation anxiety when i drove out of the porch of our newly rented place (that’s another post in itself)
  • arrived at work by 8:00 am and realised i had no idea where exactly my team mates had relocated to.. i just knew the generic floor.
  • after 3 calls, found out where we were at and headed to my new workplace
  • was happily informed of all the worries of the world (that project world) within the first 20 mins of arriving
  • spent nearly the whole day reconfiguring everything required to make me a functional member of the team
  • managed to execute two pumping sessions… IN THE LOO (!!) as i couldn’t locate an appropriate secluded area on the floor (managed to ferret out the info later in the day after my 2nd pumping session whilst cleaning the equipment in the loo)
  • saw a mother with a baby roughly anaqi’s age while leaving the office and felt like flying back home
  • drove like a maniac (i wish..) home
  • bagi salam at the gate and managed to eye anaqi waving his arms and pumping his legs frantically at the sound of my voice.
  • salam-ed and kiss-kissed with amir and kakak - stored the milk in the freezer and had a quick drink
  • finally gave anaqi his evening feed - i felt mucho mucho better afterwards (anaqi’s sighs of pleasure after finishing his feed attested to that too)

i think we’ll do alright…

on the note of changing job responsibilities - have yet to sit down with the div head… dun think i will until i’ve sussed out the situation with the project.
