my responsible pre-schooler

15 01 2007

my responsible pre-schooler 2 this is a not-quite-4-year-old. she loves going to pre-school and surprisingly also loves washing her school shoes. her mama tried to assist her but was rebuffed in her attempts. so her mama ended up just sitting beside her daughter while the daughter tries to get all the dirt out of her newly bought school footwear.

it was also worth noting that she completed her task of washing two pairs of school shoes in record 30 mins with only 3 pails of water.

my responsible pre-schooler 1this has made her into an example to emulate for her uncle who’s currently in his second year of secondary school. this is as due to the fact that although her uncle has been in the malaysian education system for more than 7 years, he still needs to be reminded every weekend to wash his shoes - sometimes takes 1.5 days to finish the task and wastes quite a substantial amount of water. quite embarrassing, i’d say. to be bettered by a not-quite-4-year-old.

needless to say, she has made her mama a very proud parent. hence, she was rewarded with lots of hugs and kisses and more hugs and kisses.

her first day @ pre-school - 5th jan 2007

PRE-SCHOOLER woke her up @ 7:00am to get her ready.  but then since she slept late last nite - it was quite a chore …. managed to nudge her awake by mentioning her school sneakers. that got her into the shower and all prepped up with her uniform and whatnot within 15 minutes.

tried to get her to have a bite to eat prior to dropping her off.. didn’t want her to suddenly demand for a snack when it’s not due yet… but in her excitement, she declined all offers of cereals, toast or even fried meehoon that nenek prepared. just in case, had a bottle of her formula prepared in the journey to the school.

accompanied her all the way to the door of her class and then the teachers took over. today’s session was set aside for only pre-1 attendance (pre-1 are for 4 year olds) to ease these noobs into the pre-school environment - so there were only a few dozens of children around.

at first, kakak seemed like she was ready to burst into tears after realising her mama and papa won’t be joining her in the class. if she had - i would be bawling along too *huwaaaa*.. but then the teacher in charge managed to coax her to the group playing with toys and both amir and i sneaked away after peeking thru another door to make sure she was alright.

altho it wasn’t brought up, i just know amir was feeling exactly as i was at that point - worried, exited, anxious - all at the same time. had a bite to eat @ our neighborhood mamak prior to my scheduled pre-natal checkup and was already cooling our heels at home by 9:30am.

by 10am, amir was already itching to head over to her school - being quite sure that kakak would be crying by now. all the same - i dissuaded him of the idea as did not want kakak to be expecting us to be already there when school ends - having her wait a bit shouldn’t hurt.

even so, by 10:35am we were already at her gates - and kakak was escorted to us by her teacher. our worries were unfounded - she was full of stories of her friends and what she did at school. her teacher’s comment was that kakak was clever but manja so needed a lot of coddling.

so there… i am proud that i survived kakak’s first day @ pre-school without shedding a tear
