of the firstborn
27 09 2006this was a week for firsts for kakak
- first non-isomil feed
been meaning to change her formula since she turned 2.5 yrs. last weekend, fate took matters into its own hands. was at tesco to source for her monthly supply of isomil plus. there we were, staring at rows filled with all brands of formula imaginable - when we hit the isomil area - her specific brand was out of stock!!
this happens every 1st (and sometimes 2nd) foray into the market. i don’t know whether the demand is high or if its supply is low, we can never be assured of that formula’s availability whenever we head for our neighborhood hypermart.
so last week, after that brief flash of disappointment, i turned to kakak and asked her point blank ‘kakak nye susu dah habis stock lah.. macam mana nie?’ to which her reply was ‘tak payah lah minum susu!’
as if.
so we sauntered along the aisle when kakak pointed to a familiar packaging - dutch lady milk powder ‘kakak nak yang ni lah…’ .. and that’s how we managed to switch formulas.
the first few days of the switch -Â quite a number of bottles of feed ended up going down the kitchen sink - the soy-based formula tasted slightly sweeter than the cow milk-based formula. so i did what a desperate mom would do - IMPROVISE!…
for each 2.5 scoops of the formula, i placed < 0.5 teaspoonsful of sugar to slightly sweeten it.. i know am taking a risk here... kakak might end up with a mild case of diabetes. but desperate times call for desperate measures... and as kakak is also a huge consumer of plain water - it should be able to counter the small amount of sugar she's being fed.
p/s: to be frank, i actually hv vested interest in the switch. for those who know the price difference between soy-based vs. cowmilk-based formula will understand.

- first voluntary request to tie her hair
normally, on good days, after her bath - she’d allow me to dry and brush her hair properly. on not so good days, she’d be running around the room screaming blue murder as supposedly the act of drying & brushing is hurting her.
but either way, within 1-2 hours, her hair will revert to its wild ways (her hair slightly resembles albert einstein’s)
suddenly, last nite - for reasons only known to her - she approached me with her long neglected hair band and requested that i tie her hair for her. macam org mengantuk disorongkan bantal la.. as i have been wanting to do that since forever.
after completing the task, this model-wannabe strutted around the house - went knocking at her grannies’ room to show off her new hair do.
