of hugs and kisses

fara | 4/8/2005 | 9:58 am

i have yet to visit my close friend who just gave birth on 21st March (yeah, the night of the vernal equinox). she’s called me twice already and regaled me with her experience in the labor room. i laughed so hard i think i actually managed to annoy my team mates at work. i guess my sharing of experience with her a week prior to her delivery was a good call (although when i wanted to share earlier in her pregnancy – she declined – she’s prone to panicking)

anyhow, gift ideas have runneth out – in our group, we’ve bought strollers and baby car seats. maybe as per what nur said, just ask her what she still needs. am gonna call her in awhile.

update: a baby stroller or car seat it is!.. word from the new mom herself

on the homefront, in the past few weeks, kya’s been shy of giving and receiving kisses. hugs are welcome at any time but once you mention ‘cium’ (kiss), she’ll either run away or start struggling out of your embrace. i guess it’s due to those sloppy kisses (y’know the type – where some slobber/spit is bound to be left on your self – cheek, forehead, arms) her uncles, grandparents – even her parents included – love to give her. she will always end up scolding us for the kiss and vigorously wiping her cheeks/chin/forehead/arms/legs (cross out where appropriate) off.

but.. yesterday was an exception. not for us (her family) but for aunty soohsia. i admit i did feel a teeny bit jealous. we were on our way to the klcc parking after shopping for kya’s toys when soohsia called (i had told her earlier that kya would be around and if she wanted to meet kya, to give me a ring). so we waited a bit and managed to meet my cousin, my project team leader and another colleague – all the while, kya would always shy away from their offers to shake hands or kiss. soohsia arrived and kya immediately held her hand out to shake hands and upon my prodding, actually consented to give a kiss and be kissed by aunty soohsia. woo hoo! amir laughed when he saw this and stated that even we couldn’t get a kiss nowadays and proceeded to ask kya to kiss me. which of course she didn’t do.

so much for mother-daughter bonding

oh well, i got me revenge in the car and smothered kya with hundreds of kisses (since she can’t escape) and was delighted to bear the brunt of her kisses too.

imitation, the sincerest form of flattery

fara | 4/5/2005 | 11:41 pm

yep.. it’s official. the latest craze to hit the net (and blogosphere) is the numa numa. try searching google – at the time of my search – it resulted in 85,000 hits. now that’s one keyword that those p0rn sites should think about including in their meta tags.

caught the bug earlier this year when i came across the original link (ain’t giving in out here – you can get it elsewhere)… and have since received at least 10 fwded emails regarding the numa numa (in varying versions)

this is bigger than the macarena, or the ketchup song. to gary (the guy who started the dance craze) – thank you for reminding me of my younger days (heh heh… not yet over 30 and i’m already reminiscing)

on the side:
work on the module that we’ve been pushing to implement at work has officially been initiated. pretty much a relief – seeing that the other stuff that i am also supposed to be working on kept being kept on the burner. monday also so another pitch to get more work in.

now if only i can squeeze that planned leave as planned…. i only take leave when necessary
1. my own birthday (last year was a miss)
2. kya’s birthday (family outing)
3. amir’s birthday + wedding anniversary (now tell me again how in the hell i managed to forget his birthday 2 years in a row)
4. eid fitri (only if amir’s taking extra leave and/or papa decides to take longer break – no babysitter you see)

so if i miss the planned dates due to work commitments, can’t really see where i can use up the days allocated to me. no payout for unused leaves, max of 7 days can be carried forward. there’ll be more credits thanks to company policy of not allowing friday off-day when public holiday falls on a saturday. can’t see me taking more than a week off at a time to finish off accumulated leave.

say bye bye to leave – or should that be say bye bye to work.

note to self: start thinking about early retirement

neither here nor there

fara | 4/1/2005 | 11:18 pm

it’s been awhile since my last post.

things have happened. none earth-shattering as the earthquake but it’s my life aye?

to the beach ahoy~
blogmages/kya_swimmingsuit.JPG finally got me family off to a short break – the last break i had did not count as a break (the eid-adha fracas). headed for kijal last sat – with amir and kya in tow – as i had a briefing (or two) to attend on monday. had planned to spend time on the beach but upon checking in and looking out into the seascape – decided against it – waves were extremely strong. the beach was pounded upon for hours. tengkujuh was actually over but the bellboy said it’s been strong waves for a few days.

so we ended up in the hotel pool. got kya a cute swimming outfit (from the hotel gift shop nonetheless – didn’t hv the foresight to get it at sale price in either isetan/parkson). she was mighty proud of the suit. took tonnes of pictures of her in the pool to show off to her grandparents back in kl.

who’s that girl?
back from the trip .. took a day off to recuperate from the long drive (not that i was the driver – amir drove all the way to kerteh and back). noticed some red marks on kya’s arms and legs over the weekend, headed for the GP’s and was assured by her that kya was not contracting chicken pox (adam – kya’s cousin – was down with chicken pox the whole week and has been admitted to kajang hospital for observation)

surprisingly during this visit, kya kissed and hugged our GP first BEFORE getting her routine 1/2 tablet vit c. in our past visits, kya would only kiss/hug the GP after getting her dues  so needless to say, our GP was quite pleased.

blogmages/barber_visit.jpgkya’s been having lice isses and i am slowly losing the battle with the eggs so decided to do away with kya’s hair. in preparation of the dreaded trip to the barber’s (i do hate hair salons since they charge you to your teeth for an inch of trimming), stocked up on choclairs and a chuppa-chups to distract kya while her hair was being shaved off.

i shouldn’t have worried. she was as calm as can be. the barber had to place a piece of plank on the seat so that kya was within his reach and she observed the proceedings through the mirror. i was beside her, just like a mother hen, placing the chuppa-chups ever so often in her mouth in order to maintain her silence.

after the ordeal was done, kya stared at her reflection in the mirror and broke into a huge grin. you wouldn’t have thought this was the same baby who screamed blue murder when had her head shaved in dec 2003

to park or not to park
on fridays – not unlike today – i would sometimes end up parking downstairs instead of in the parking area near klcc mosque. and for the rest of the afternoon, i will be counting the minutes until 5pm. for those unfamiliar with klcc, the parking rate is myr2.50 for the 1st hr and myr1 for each subsequent 1/2 hr on weekdays. so that would amount to roughly myr 6.50 for 3 hrs parking! .. aiyaya.. that translates into 2 days’ worth of parking in my default parking spot.

so i have been contemplating on getting the season pass for klcc parking since october last year. being the procrastinator that i am when it comes to these things, i kept contemplating until today. finally got myself over to klcc parking mgmt office and placed my name in the waiting list. yes – a waiting list. apparently the demand for season parking has increased. wished i had placed my name back in october. i would’ve then been closer to getting the pass today. oh well.. that’s water under the bridge.

on the side:
was just locking up me car on P3 when saw this bmw about to park in the disabled parking bay. my kaypohchee self made a point to see who was driving and discovered that the car did not contain a disabled (as i expected) but was bearing instead a stylish lady with her two brats.

maybe i’m just a bit jealous of her driving the car but HELLOOOOOO?! it’s people like this who are indiscriminate in parking their cars that piss me off. don’t get me started on those who persist in occupying 1 1/2 of parking bays and causing me to have to park further away from the exits.

ok..i’ve ranted.

cheers
