blighted jabplite

fara | 3/12/2005 | 3:31 pm

have been keeping track of my expenses using jabplite. pretty nifty personal finance software – and it’s free too!

however, i managed to muck up my data last thursday. this is the 2nd time! the first time it happened to me, i had 1 month’s worth of transactions and didn’t make any backups. so i learnt my lesson and started over fresh and made backups. tried to use the backup to restore the data to my phone with no success.

contacted the software developer and he had been so helpful. am in the midst of testing out the latest proposed solution. let’s see whether i have the smarts to figure how to do this – or i’ll end up having to start fresh yet AGAIN!

burning down the house

fara | 3/8/2005 | 9:49 pm

Artiste: Tom Jones (feat. The Cardigans)

Fightin’ fire with fire

Watch out you might get what you’re after
Cool babies strange but not a stranger
I’m an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight
Wait till the party’s over
Hold tight
We’re in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Here’s your ticket pack your bags
Time for jumpin’ overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin’ fire with fire

All wet hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hundred six-ty five degrees
Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

Fightin’ fire with fire
Fightin’ fire with fire
Burning down the house

My house’s
Out of the ordinary
That’s right
Don’t wanna to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

Watch out you might get what you’re after
Cool babies strange but not a stranger
I’m an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Three hundred six-ty five degrees
Burning down the house

Fightin’ fire with fire
Fightin’ fire with fire
Gonna burst into flame
Fightin’ fire with fire
Fightin’ fire with fire
Gonna burst into flame
Burnin’ down the house
My house
Burnin’ down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nothin’ yet
Everything’s stuck together
I don’t know what you expect staring into your TV set
Fighting fire with fire

Burning down the house
Burning down the house

it’s been a slightly painful experience – this shifting of webhosts. it should’ve been virtually (pardon the pun) painless save for the fact that the welcome mail sent by my new landlord contained the wrong nameserver info ! which i religiously updated in my domain manager and then proceeded to patiently wait more than 3 full days (> 72 hrs) for it to propagate.

i was actually worried after the first day but then i didn’t want to sound like a worry-wart. so i waited.

then i logged into their support site – where you can find absolutely helpful staff – and the support staff pointed out that i updated the wrong name server info ( i, of course, highlighted that it was their people that sent that piece of detail to me)

anyhow, once i updated the real nameservers for my domain – walla! within 24 hrs everything was settled.

so i am now comfortably settling down in my new abode.. will be doing some tinkering later in the month – time permitting.

too deloo!

moving house (virtually)

fara | 3/2/2005 | 3:36 pm

am planning to move to a new webhost. will do the necessary packing up and what nots. Then it’s off to signing the new ‘lease’.

there’s nothing glaringly wrong with the current one. only that i decided to move to greener pastures (meaning MORE space for LESS $$$). this might cause a compromise in the service level – but you would never know until you try it aye? plus quite a few high traffic portals that i know of actually hosts there so my itsy-bitsy bandwidth of a site wouldn’t be a strain on them.

there may be some interruptions between tomorrow til the weekend – but none may notice (apart from my mailing lists, of course – with all the bounced mails)

let’s pray for a smooth migration… toodeloo!
