a-hoppin’ around the blogosphere

fara | 2/28/2005 | 6:07 pm

i used to chat a lot. i still do on instant messengers but not that frequently anymore on irc.

when i was a die-hard chatter (mostly during my uni years, my housemates can attest to that!), i could be online for 24 hrs at a stretch – many do that.

some friendships on irc last .. some linger about.. some just fade into oblivion if you don’t get online as often as before.

i was doing some spring cleaning on my IE favorites when i came across a link i saved for further browsing. so that was just what i did – browsed with the assumption to see updated website – only to hit a blog!

obviously, it is the easiest way to allow ppl to keep up on what’s been happening without too much bothering on htmls and such. and since this link is of a chatter i knew from dalnet #malaysia.. i managed to find links to the others. and managed to get to know what they’ve been up to while i was sleeping (and losing my nicks along the way).

prolly it is time to get back into the irc action? i do want to trace a few people like kristi and ash and what’s become of them.

finally .. the rain

fara | 2/27/2005 | 9:13 am

it rained since 2-3am early this morn and had only just let up (roughly 8.30am). definitely a godsend. don’t know whether i would survive another week of smog and haze.

it’s actually kya that i pity the most. i make a point of ensuring she gets some activities done outside of the house. i don’t expect papa to take her to the playground considering that he also has tonnes of other things to do while at home. so when i get back early from work and on the weekends, both kya and i will end up at the playground and she’ll do her rounds of the equipment there.

as of today, it’s already been a week since last she got to really play at the playground. hopefully with the rain.. (and more rain later in the week) she would at least be able to venture outside and have a bit of a walk.

once she’s done bathing that is. she’s been in her baby tub since 15 mins ago and showing no signs of leaving the bathroom. i might end up having to take extreme measures in extracting her from the bathtub.

this bit of news taken of the nst online is a tad worrying.

HAZE: Children under 5 at risk

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26:
——————————————————————————–

Children below the age of five and adults above 40 are at greater risk of having medical problems in the wake of the current heat wave nationwide.

Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said here today that the number of patients seeking medical treatment had increased in the Klang Valley and in some States.

Meanwhile, the Department of Environment announced today that the number of areas experiencing unhealthy air quality had risen from 10 yesterday to 11 in the Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan and Malacca.

“The blistering heat and the haze can bring health problems, especially to the high risk groups — farmers, manual workers and athletes,” Chua said.

In Port Klang, he said, the number of patients with heat-induced ailments increased three-fold to 4,297 last month, compared to 1,412 in December. …..

let’s pray for more rain.

btoes woes

fara | 2/23/2005 | 4:20 pm

blogmages/msibtoes.jpg this is my supposed savior for my notebook’s lack of bluetooth capabilities. the msi dongle. codenamed btoes. recalled that when amir asked the salesguy at lowyat plaza whether or not they hv btoes on sale, the guy went ‘huh?‘

further clarifications (mainly just saying msi bluetooth dongle) cleared the issue. amir was a bit pissed that they didn’t know the product name. me, i was just happy they still had it in stock.

tested it and my spanking new (well, it was new 2 weeks ago) 256mb rs-mmc and was the more happier as they worked like a charm.

but now.. btoes woes are descending on me. it seems like if i don’t use the dongle for a few days, then establishing a connection with stitch-0 would prove to be such a chore. i don’t know whether it’s due to the dongle, the notebook or the mobile phone.

blogmages/cakks.jpg funny thing is when i attempted to send these photos i took on stitch-0 to the notebook via bt – it still works! i have this niggling feeling that must be due to my nokia pc sync. though, i’ve only just upgraded the darned thing!

emm.. time to go a-tinkering!

babies galore

fara | 2/22/2005 | 10:44 am

this week is officially babies week.

last saturday a friend (housemates back at uni) gave birth to a baby boy.

congratulations baya!!

heard that she was in the labor room from 2 to 11 pm. phewww! that is a darn looooonnnngggg wait. i was in the labor room for only ~ 3 hrs and it was already way too long for me. but the good thing with public hospitals is they are in no hurry to cut you up.

today, our project lead’s wife is currently in the delivery room preparing to bring to the world their second child. may the delivery be smooth and successful.

update:
it’s also a boy!!! ‘studly‘ as per AMN’s response when i text him whether it’s a boy.
