the day where all power was lost

fara | 1/13/2005 | 5:05 pm

just had to post this today.

the whole city’s power went down. well, at least in my part of the city.

was in the midst of a brainstorming session (otak ribut, as AMN likes to call it) when suddenly the lights on the meeting floor flickered. thought it was just a recurrence of the floor blackout which happened a few weeks back so didn’t think much of it. so we continued our discussion.

then the lights and the air-conditioning went dead. a few text msges away, discovered not only was the towers affected, it was affecting the whole city. and a few other cities (tsk.. towns) in malaysia too.

as per normal, we waited for the announcement via the PA system. the voice informed us not to attempt to leave our floors as the power failure is affecting the elevators too (which led all of us to think what’s with this world-class building’s backup generator?)

i was already feeling pangs of hunger since my brekkie was only a cuppa campbell chicken soup sprinkled with oatmeal.

finally, we decided to leave the building onboard the only operating elevator in the group of elevators that’s servicing the floor. the lobby was pitch dark and we were greeted with the sight of literally hundreds of people just standing/waiting to be able to go upstairs again.

since i don’t make a habit of carrying a handbag nor lugging my wallet/car keys to any meeting, and due to the irrational fear of stopping at my floor only to find myself unable to get another elevator ride down, i had left the tower with only my notebook and stitch-0.

well, thank god for stitch-0 as i would’ve been cut off completely from the family. text msged amir, mama and also managed to call home just before leaving the floor, i was assured that everybody else was accounted for.

to cut the story short –

  • went for lunch at BSN
  • checked with the security whether we head upstairs to collect our belongings upstairs – to which the answer was a definite NO
  • since i then lost my colleagues, headed for tower 2 lobby to try locate ppl from home base
  • ended up spending nearly 3 hrs resting on my laurels, catching up with office gossip and just checking out chicks
  • and oh! managed to update my phonebook with thumbnails of mates (if u want your pic in my phonebook, just give me a ring!)

the ordeal ended at 4pm. waited awhile before heading back to my floor (to avoid the crush of ppl also rushing to get back to their desks). reached the dark floor. decided there and then against trying to squeeze in any kind of work. packed up my stuff and headed home.

and here i am. blogging at 5.00pm from home.

teledera_case kya usually feeds herself when she’s at home. if we’re visiting, i would feed her instead.

as such, some mess is usually expected. she has her own kain sapra – basically like a picnic blanket – which we will lay in the middle of the living room for her to sit on while she does her thing. more often than not, 80% of the food ends up being on the blanket. and she will then proceed to feed from the blanket

occassionally, stray particles of food would end up on the carpet/floor and this is where the ‘training’ ingrained by papa (her atuk) will make its appearance. upon instruction, she will head to the kitchen to get hold of the enkrak to clean up her own mess. it’s fun observing her concentrating hard at her task.

mama calls it child abuse

days of our lives

fara | 1/10/2005 | 4:25 pm

amir’s come down with something on sunday. a near cold .. his throat is feeling scratchy and he has a slight temperature. and as usual, when he feels a bit under the weather he sleeps in another room as precautionary measures to ensure it doesn’t get to kya.

got him to keep taking his antibiotics this time. reminded him of his last encounter with the nasty cold virus which was pretty persistent in making its home in amir’s body. sometimes amir’s worse than kya when it comes to this. pity i can’t bribe him with mentos to induce him to take his medication (like i do with kya). prolly another type of incentive is necessary

baby update:
kya’s getting better at making me feel guilty whenever i leave for work. materials i read both on the net and in books that my sis gave me says this is normal. especially when kya does her manjer pose – hugging me tightly, with her head rested on my chest and doe-like eyes brimming with fake tears (yes.. fake tears! she is an actress in her own right) – all the while saying ‘nak ikuttttt… mamaaaa…‘

be still my heart!!

weekend revelations

fara | 1/10/2005 | 9:39 am
  1. my mastercard was cloned. citibank called and informed me of this. will be getting a replacement of the new one i just received in december.
  2. celcom’s termination form actually lists quite a number of plausible reasons for closing an account. but that account was registered under my mum and my mum being a nice person that she is – she glossed over the real reason the account is being closed (which is that i think celcom is hoodwinking me on the gprs deal)
  3. kya’s 6th tooth has made its appearance. yeay!
  4. amir and i should actually go out more often – as in dating modus operandi not the family outing kind. (meet the fockers is good, not as hilarious as the first movie – but worth the redemption points i used to redeem the tix)
