mama came home from a kenduri at tg karang yesterday and asked me,

“did you feel the tremors today?”

“what tremors?”

“didn’t you know there was an earthquake in indonesia?”

and that was at 6.30pm.

i was totally ignorant to what was happening, mostly because the tv downstairs was hijacked by amir to play his playstation. and secondly, i was busy catching up with a backlog of chores that needed tending to.

so it was at 8pm when i actually viewed the news re: the death tolls and the impacted areas.

to say i was struck with disbelief was an understatement.

i could link you to all the various sites that provides updates to this. but since i usually get my bearings from this one site, you might wanna head there

nadd never ceases to amaze me. she made her experiences seem less than harrowing - which is what i would’ve called it.

i’m proud that she’s keeping her head high and spirits up.. and we are all rooting for her to get through this

am slowly but surely learning about css. this got me all excited about understanding more on style sheets.

did a bit of tinkering on web when i was still doing my accounting degree.

towards the end of my course, the passion cooled off.

rekindled it during my unemployment phase. heck, there was nothing to do. so ended up putting up a site for our community.

then started working and everything else that sees me involving myself on the web reached a standstill. and funny seeing that happen, considering i work for an IT company. that has it’s own portal development team.

i even expressed my interest in being transferred to the team. am totally aware that i don’t have the paper qualification but never really thought that i would receive this response ‘i think you should just do it as a hobby and concentrate on where we can make full use of you’

what happened to skills development? apparently not on the company’s time - do it on your own - if you’re good at it, we will probably be able to charge for your services then.

noted earlier while at work that 1.2.2 was officially released.

decided to upgrade tonite. quite apprehensive about it

followed the instructions given in the download page on how to upgrade.

1. backup database (just in case you screw up your upgrade - at least you managed to salvage your posts)
2. delete all previous installation files (quite right! out with the old ~)
3. upload the new WP files ( ~ in with the new!)
4. run the upgrade file (nearly there)
5. check that everything is in order

i got stuck at no. 5

the index page was complaining - had this whole load of mutterings in php speak

kept calm. read the error again. kept seeing repetitions of the word wp-comments.php.

ahh. so i managed to leave out 1 file in the upload (step 3). had planned to keep my old file but accidently deleted it (in step 2).

uploaded the default file. reloaded the page

and here you have it. epistle reloaded.

managed to recall my login to blogger.

transferred the entries made there. carried this out manually as i only created 3 entries - then i switched to using wordpress on my own site.

read the entries in September. if you even bother. not that there’s any earth-saving ideas there anyhow
